One of the greatest pleasures in life is to soak in a hot tub after a long, exhausting day. If you love warm, relaxing bubble baths as much as we do, consider investing in a brand new tub!
Bathtubs come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors and materials today. When you go shopping for a new one you’ll have to choose between either an acrylic or fiberglass tub.
So which one’s right for you?
Here’s what you need to consider when choosing between an acrylic or fiberglass tub:
Acrylic Tubs
An acrylic tub is made by taking a solid sheet of acrylic and then heating until it becomes malleable enough to stretch over a mold. Once the plastic is cured, the tub shape is lifted from the mold.
Most acrylic tubs are sprayed with fiberglass in order to make them more durable and to add a layer sheen and protection.
Other types of acrylic tubs are a lot heavier; these are lined with a composite that makes them that much sturdier.
Fiberglass Tubs
The process of manufacturing fiberglass tubs involves spraying a type of polyester over a mold and then reinforcing it with fiberglass fibers.
Once that’s done, it can be coated with an acrylic or gel to add shine. The tub will be given its color in the last step.
Acrylic VS Fiberglass Tubs
Shine
Both acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs are sealed with plastic which leaves them with a smooth and glossy finish.
These tubs are designed to look good in any color!
Affordability
Compared to other bathtubs made from cast iron, stone and other metals, fiberglass and acrylic bathtubs are much more affordable.
Generally, fiberglass is cheaper than acrylic bathtubs so if you’re on a tight budget then you should probably go for a fiberglass tub.
Variety
Because both acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs can be manufactured so easily, consumers have a wide-range of tubs to choose from.
